What is the Scottish Comedy Festival?

Comedy has exploded in Scotland, with an eclectic and diverse circuit developing at a rate of knots, filled with great nights and raw talent eager to grow and find a wider audience and the challenges they bring.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest arts festival and most important fixture in any comedian's calendar, just so happens to be on our own doorstep, so for 2012, in order to reach that wider audience, a wealth of Scotland's most passionate comedy writers and performers have banded together to build themselves the biggest, best and most formal stage that the circuit has ever had.

This August, The Beehive Inn, home of the year-round Beehive Comedy Club, will be a dedicated showcase Fringe venue playing host to The Scottish Comedy Festival 2012, which has two strong aims: to bring the comedic talent working in the north of the UK to wider national and international attention, so we can develop our craft and evolve as acts; and to really make some noise and promote the circuit's exciting nights, clubs, shows and comedians for the rest of the year - because when the Fringe stops, we don't.

SCF 2012 will see over 100 comedians, from the very brightest established acts to the most promising up-and-comers, present over 35 different shows over 26 days and 2 venue rooms. We're shaping up to be offering one of the best programmes at the Fringe, with our heady mix of stand-up shows and sketch and character shows, improv and comedy debates, quiz shows and live podcasts, lunchtime hi-jinks and late night revelry, amazing full-runs and not-to-be-missed one-offs. There's something at the SCF 2012 for every comedy taste.

And taking the lead from organisations like PBH's Free Fringe and The Laughing Horse Free Festival, we're offering entry to all our shows for absolutely FREE, with the audience encouraged to make a fair donation after the show if they've enjoyed themselves.

We want an audience, we want to learn and grow, we have something to offer, and we want to make you laugh. This Fringe 2012, support the Scottish Comedy Festival!
